Home foreclosures in Mississippi are up substantially. A national firm that tracks the trend says there was a 40 percent jump in the number of homes that were repossessed in the last three months. According to RealtyTrac, lenders repossessed 727 homes from July through September and sent out notices of pending foreclosures to another 705 owners. Still, experts say that number is down from where it was in the same period a year ago. The state has one of the lowest foreclosure rates in the nation for the number mortgages borrowers default on. Mississippi’s Attorney General is now joining others across the nation investigating whether mortgage companies should be forced to stop foreclosures following allegations of improper practices by some lending agents.
